Jabiru Stork

bocianjabiru.jpg

A very rare and shy Jabiru Stork, one of the largest birds of the New World (wing span of 2,5m). Alghough Belize boasts of the healthiest population of the bird in the Mesoamerica, the highest count so far was 24. We were lucky to see one relatively far away from us (our binoculars served us well). The camera did its best... anyway, with a bit of imagination, you can see a Jabiru Stork standing on the nest (inset).
